"Creating a Defensible Space -Roof & Gutter Cleaning Santa Cruz"

7/19/2021

Well it’s 2021 and California is once again watching massive wildfires like the “Tamarack Fire” and the “Dixie Fire” destroy both land and property. It is hard to imagine another wildfire season approaching like what we all experienced last year.  All of us in Santa Cruz County were effected or know someone that was effected in one way or another by the “CZU Lightening Complex Fire”. One thing that we have all learned is how important it is for home owners to prepare their homes by creating a “Defensible Space” around their home.
I will never forget watching a“60 Minutes” episode on the Kern Valley fire from 2016. The documentary was very well made and involved interviews from veteran fire fighters as well as other experts. Studies were mentioned that revealed clearly how homes are ignited by flying embers as things like dry brush and debris sit on rooftops and fill rain gutters like kindling. The 60 Minutes program also referenced situations where the only homes that had survived were those that indeed had the recommended “defensible space.” I was amazed to even hear from professional fire fighters that they often had to make a split decision as to whether or not a home could be saved based on the defensible space around that home. Both the success and safety of the fire fighters would be rooted in this judgment and could determine whether a home could or would be protected in a fire situation. As we head into the 2021 wildfire season here in Santa Cruz County I would strongly urge home owners to make every effort to heed Cal-Fires instructions and ensure that their home is protected. Cal-Fire has comprised a list that walks you through the steps on how to create a “Defensible Space” around your home and property. This list includes the need for roof and gutter cleaning. Here is where Pure Light Window & Gutter Cleaning Service is here to serve you. We offer professional roof clearing and gutter cleaning throughout Santa Cruz County. As we head into 2021, Santa Cruz residence are once again making New Year’s resolutions and doing everything in their power to enter the New Year with a sense of order and purpose. 2020 presented us all with many challenges and also offered us a fresh perspective on what really matters in life. For most people, the value of time with family and other core values became front and center. Residence throughout Santa Cruz like the rest of the world found themselves spending more time in their homes than ever before. Our homes, became our office, our gym, our playground, our castle. Home owners began to see their homes in a way they have never seen before. Flaws, imperfections as well as potential upgrades took on a whole new perspective. I personally was amazed at how many of my regular customers were taking every opportunity to invest in their home in some way or another. From planting a garden, building a deck, to adding a fresh paint job, these things never meant more. With the sudden increase of hours people were staying home, these upgrades brought some extra joy to their surroundings. Of course, many homeowners also saw these projects offer them a sense of control during a very uncertain time in our history. Windows Don't Lie!- "How Professional Window Cleaning Has Kept Me Honest."

12/6/2020

As a professional window cleaner for over two decades now one thing I have learned is that windows do not lie. While there are endless ways to clean a window, solutions, tools and methods, one thing that remains an absolute are the results. Once you are finished cleaning a window, that same window will look back at you and tell you honestly how you have done. You may be the nicest person, have the most sincere personality and a stellar work ethic, however the freshly cleaned window simply will not lie as it reports on your performance. Window cleaning can teach you a lot about yourself and has a way of testing your metal.
To be clear on this topic, I want to make a distinction between a home owner setting out to clean their own windows and a professional who is being paid. The home owner will most likely have a lower bar, with minimal expectations as to results. However, even the highly motivated home owner will often find their results are so far from their expectations that calling a professional becomes the only logical conclusion. For the professional like myself, the expectations are very high. When you leave a property, the freshly cleaned windows will testifying in your favor or against you. They will not lie, if you have done a great job it will be evident and if you have not, this also will stand true.
Window cleaning like many things in life can be a place of great discovery. I personally began my journey almost 23 years ago when I opened my first window cleaning business. Looking back over these many years I realize more than ever how window cleaning has kept me honest.

TOOLS & EQUIPTMENT: In the early days, I did my very best to keep expenses down and whenever possible purchase the most affordable equipment. Today I spare absolutely no expense as professional window cleaning equipment has come a long way and the results are undeniable.

WORK ETHIC: Window cleaning is extremely hard work as your body is forced to twist, turn, bend and extend in all sorts of situations. Sometimes just reaching a window can be a real “Circus Ole” Act. Despite what may be required to complete the cleaning, the window will always report back to you on your performance. It is not uncommon to clean a window more than once as the first attempt proves to be unacceptable. So professional window cleaning will test your work ethic as you are often forced to persevere until the window tells you that you are free to move on.

PERSONALITY: Window cleaning not only reveals your work ethic but also personal standards. Professional window cleaning is not as simple as clean and dirty. There are very real variables that often determine results. Your personality often dictates your standards and will ultimately determine what you think is acceptable. I have always been a bit of a perfectionist and as a professional window cleaner that can be a tuff pill to swallow. The bar that I set is very high and demands that my tools and equipment along with my work ethic are always firing on all cylinders. I have learned over the years that my expectations are far greater than 99% of my customers. I do not require supervision, monetary stimulation or external motivation while performing my services as my own personal standards keep me accountable. At the end of each day, I know with certain that the windows will not lie and that keeps me honest.

'It's Roof & Rain Gutter Cleaning Time!"

10/5/2019

Over the years, I have been asked the questioned; “what is the best time of the year to get my rain gutters cleaned?” Without hesitation, my answer has remained the same for over two decades now. October would be in my opinion the best time of the year to have your roof and rain gutters cleaned for the simple fact that traditionally October brings our first rains to Santa Cruz and the rest of the State. As a professional gutter cleaner, I consider October of each year to be the official start of gutter cleaning season.  Apart from the first annual rains bringing a clear reminder that gutters require cleaning there is yet another, even more important reason to consider October as the best time. On average, October is still dry enough to clean both your roof and rain gutters efficiently and with the least amount of mess. When roof and gutter debris is dry, it responds very well to blowers and is easily removed from both your roof and gutters as well as your property. Once the rain falls that same debris becomes saturated, muddy and much more difficult to extract. Not only does the gutter cleaning process become more difficult, but your property becomes more vulnerable as sludge is being moved from roof and gutter systems. While dry debris is often hand scooped and bagged during the cleaning process, soaked and saturated debris leaves only one option and that is the hand scooping method. I recommend that home owners have their gutters cleaned at least once each year. If you are fortunate enough to get it done in October, then you will most likely experience the dry debris scenario as described above. Understanding that the majority of home owners will most likely focus on gutter cleaning once they see substantial rain, we are more than prepared to perform gutter cleaning services throughout the wet winter months. Pure Light Window & Gutter Cleaning Service has over two decades of experience, with service areas including; Aptos, Rio Del Mar, Soquel, Capitola, La Selva beach, Corralitos, Watsonville, Scotts Valley, Felton, Ben Lomond, Boulder Creek and throughout Santa Cruz County.
