1)-The first and most obvious reason Santa Cruz home and business owners should have their roof and rain gutters cleaned is to insure their home is protected during heavy rains. Rain gutters insure that water moves from the roof to the gutters to the downspouts and away from your home. A simple clog can cause water damage to your roof, fascia, siding, windows, and ultimately the very foundation of your home.

2)-The second less obvious reason has to do with the current drought and the resulting fire danger. It is highly recommended that every home creates a “defensible space” which is a debris free zone which could save your home during a wild fire. One of the most important steps is to remove all dead and dry debris from both your roof and gutters.

3)-And finally the third reason is even less obvious. Mosquitos carrying viruses such as the West Nile Virus as well as Yellow Fever and a host of others are being reported more and more throughout California with reports occurring right here in Santa Cruz County. Clogged gutters create pools of standing water that become breeding grounds for mosquitos.
